Columbia, Mo. - The Columbia College eSports teams started the University League of Legends (uLoL) Campus Series with a bang as both teams picked up victories in the opening weekend. The Cougar Silver team defeated St. Cloud State University, 2-0 and the Cougar Navy team defeated the University of Wisconsin, 2-0.

The start of 2017 meant that Riot's uLoL competition has finally arrived. The Cougar Navy team will go on to represent Columbia College in the tournament. Columbia dominated in Saturday's match, especially the Cougars star top laner Ian "Misty" Alexander. Alexander held the highest gold per minute (GPM) in both games. In game 1, he averaged 395 GPM compared to his opponent who averaged only 261 GPM. In Game 2, the gap was even larger, 480 GPM versus 237 GPM. Alexander is also the highest ranked player on the Columbia roster, currently ranked #51 (top 0.0063%) in North America.

This University Campus Series launched Saturday, Jan. 14. The uLoL Campus Series is the biggest competition in collegiate League of Legends. This year more than 200 universities and colleges will battle on the rift until a champion is crowned. The tournament format is best of three during regional group stages which will extend through most of February. At the end of February, the top two teams from each group will advance to regional playoffs in Ro32 elimination bracket. Regional playoffs will determine the top seed for each region to compete in the finals in April.
