R. Marvin Owens Field

Originally built in 1991, the Cougars’ soccer field was named after R. Marvin Owens, a member of the Columbia College Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Finance Committee. During Owens’ tenure, the College has made tremendous improvements both in its financial position and in campus facilities. Former Columbia College President Dr. Donald Ruthenburg first introduced the idea of a new soccer field in 1989. In the summer of 2005 the soccer field was upgraded, giving it a new surface that makes it among the best in the country. The field’s dimensions increased to 115 by 80 yards from its previous size of 111 by 66 yards.

Following the 2014 Cougar soccer season the existing field and surrounding area was given a complete facelift. The new field was given a new turf surface with a non-competitive turf track around it. There are now four varsity sized locker rooms, an athletic training station, an officials locker room, a state of the art press box complete with video broadcasting capabilities, a concession stand, restrooms for fans and a ticket booth.

New scoreboards were added in the summer of 2021.

In 2018, R. Marvin Owens also became the home venue for the Cougar Lacrosse program.Â
