Cougar Bowling Finishes Third

Hastings, Neb. - The Cougar bowling team traveled to Hastings, Nebraska this weekend to compete in the 7th Annual Bronco Open. The tournament was a two day competition consisting of six regular games on the first day and 16 Baker games on the second day, followed by top eight match play for the Navy team and top four match play for the Silver team.

The Navy Team consisting of Ashley Westbrook, Katyn Fischer, Katie Leonard, Claire Sandstrom, Hailey Collins, and Rachel Doran competed against nine other teams. While the Silver Team of Zaria Combs, Lindsay Tribble, Emma West, Samantha Degenhardt, and Megan Phillips competed against just three other teams.

After the day one, the Navy team sat in sixth place with a total of 5,035 pins. They continued to bowl well in their Baker matches and added 2,695 pins to push their pin total to 7,730 pins and give put them in fifth place going into match play. Their first match was a 381 to 278 victory over Iowa Central CC that advanced the Cougars to the Semifinals. There they faced Ottawa University and fell in two games 404 to 334, giving them a Third place finish. Morningside College went on to win the Varsity division.
 
The Silver team ended day one in first place with an 18 pin lead in front of Ottawa University JV 1 with a total of 4,718 pins. They totaled 2,368 pins on day two in their Baker games seeding them second going in to match play where they faced Morningside College. The Silver squad fell in the first two matches 156 to 143 and 150 to 145 giving them a third place finish as well, while the host team of Hasting College took the title.  

The Cougars next tournament will be December 7th and 8th in Sioux City, Iowa.
