Three Cougars Qualify for Outdoor Nationals

Liberty, Mo. – The men's and women's track and field teams were back in action yesterday when they competed in two meets. The Cougars traveled to Liberty, Missouri to compete in the William Jewell Darryl Gourley Invite and traveled to Wichita, Kansas to compete in the Wichita State KT Woodman Classic. The men's team finished 2nd out of 18 teams in the Darryl Gourley Invite while the women's team took 16th out of 20 teams. No team scores were reported for the Woodman Classic. On the men's side, they had three individuals hit NAIA B standard to qualify for Nationals.
 
In the Darryl Gourley Invite, Alex Fritz, Mason McCaleb and Zach Nichols led the way for the Cougars. Fritz took first in the 200 meter with a time of 22.02, second in javelin with a distance of 46.56 and sixth in high jump with a height of 1.80. McCaleb and Nichols both competed in hammer throw as McCaleb finished second with a distance of 52.50 and Nichols came right behind him in third with a distance of 50.72. Both McCaleb and Nichols mark hit NAIA B standard and has qualified them for Nationals. McCaleb also competed in shot put and discus and took second (14.97) and fifth (42.58) respectively. Zane Torreyson competed in shot put as well and placed fourth (14.08). Devin Kottwitz, Tristan Baze, and Michael Nichols all had fourth place finishes in their events. Kottwitz competed in javelin (44.18), Baze in the 3000 meter steeplechase (10:35), and Nichols in pole vault (4.25).
 
The women's side was led by Kaleena Logan in the Darryl Gourley Invite as she finished fifth in pole vault with a height of 2.58 and sixth in triple jump with a distance of 11.05. Hannah Ricketts and Tessa Edgar took sixth in their events. Ricketts competed in hammer throw (44.76) and Edgar competed in javelin (29.88).
 
In the Wichita State KT Woodman Classic, Jacob Jenkins led the way for the men as he took first in the 800 meter with a time of 1:55. Seth Schenck competed in the 1500 meter (3:56) and his mark hit NAIA B standard to qualify him for Nationals.
 
In the Wichita State KT Woodman Classic, the women were led by Pia Von Keutz who finished 10th in the 5000 meter (18:14) and Brianna Haller who took 12th in the 1500 meter (4:52) to round up the top performers.
 
The men's and women's outdoor track and field team is back in action on Wednesday, April 17th through Saturday April 20th when they travel to Lawrence, Kansas to compete in the Kansas Relays.
