Men’s Track and Field Team Claim Third Straight AMC Outdoor Championship

Greenville, Ill. – The Columbia College men's and women's track and field teams were back in action over the last two days when they traveled to Greenville, Illinois, to compete in the 2019 AMC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Cougars had a great showing at the meet as the men's team won their third overall AMC Outdoor Track and Field Championship while the women's team finished fourth. With the win today, the men's cross country and track and field teams have captured the AMC Triple Crown, which means they have won the AMC Cross Country, Indoor Track and Field, and Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the same year. This is the third straight season the men's team has completed the triple crown.

The men's side finished with a team score of 239 points, which put them 105 points ahead of Missouri Baptist who came in second. The team finished the meet with 16 AMC All-Conference honorees and four NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship qualifiers. Travis Line, Jacob Jenkins, Seth Schenck, and Malik Holman earned AMC All-Conference honors in the 4x800 relay and hit the NAIA B standard after finishing in first place with a time of 7:44. Additional AMC All-Conference recipients, individuals who finished in the top three in an event, include:

Mason McCaleb who won both shot put (14.78) and discus (49.87), while taking second in hammer (46.93). His mark in discuss hit NAIA A standard. Jacob Jenkins who won the 800 meter (1:57). Alexander Dukes who finished first in the 10,000 meter (32:04). Tyler Lawson who won the 5000 meter (15:15). Alex Fritz who took second in both the 200 meter (22.06) and 400 meter (49.86), while finishing third in high jump (1.88). Malachi Jackson finished second in the 110 hurdles (15.51). Seth Schenck who finished second in both the 1500 meter (4:04) and 5000 meter (15:18) and third in the 800 meter (2:01). Michael Nichols who took second in pole vault (4.30). Zach Nichols placed second in javelin (54.20) and third in shot put (13.73). Zane Torreyson finished third in hammer (42.45). Mason Gaines who took third in the 5000 meter (15:38). Travis Line, Jacob Jenkins, Seth Schenck, and Malik Holman made up the 4x800 relay team who won the event and qualified for Nationals by hitting NAIA B standard. The 4x100 relay team finished second (44.00), which is made up of Louis Gianopulos, Alex Fritz, Sharrod Connor, and Aidin Rolley. The 4x400 relay team made up of Malik Holman, Jacob Jenkins, Travis Line, and Seth Schenck took third (3:27).

The women's side finished with a team score of 143.5 points. The team finished the meet with six AMC All-Conference recipients as well as one NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship qualifier. Kaleena Logan led the way for the Cougars as she earned AMC All-Conference honors and hit the NAIA B standard in triple jump. Additional AMC All-Conference recipients, individuals who finished in the top three in an event, include:

Pia Von Keutz who won both the 5000 meter (17:50) and the 10,000 meter (38:47). Hannah Ricketts placed first in discus (37.47) and second in hammer (45.19). Kaleena Logan finished second in both pole vault (2.73) and triple jump (11.63). Logan's mark in triple jump hit NAIA B standard and has qualified her for Nationals. Brianna Haller took second in the 5000 meter (18:19). Halie Moeller placed tied for second in pole vault (2.73). Meaghan Rice finished third in the high jump (1.47).

Following the conclusion of the meet, the American Midwest Conference announced the superlative awards for the 2019 outdoor track and field season. For their efforts, Alexander Dukes was named Freshman of the YearMason McCaleb was named the Outstanding Men's Field Athlete, Kaleena Logan was named the Outstanding Women's Field Athlete, and Tracy Jex and Daniel Radkowiec was named the men's Coaching Staff of the Year.

The men's and women's track and field teams are back in action on Thursday, May 23rd when they travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama, to compete in the 2019 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Nationals.
