FULTON, Mo. — The Columbia College men's golf team won the WWU Tanglewood Fall Invitational on Tuesday, finishing at 17-under. The Cougars trailed by eight strokes after the first round, then shot 15-under in the second round to pass the field. Bruno Marti Jimenez led the way, finishing 7-under to tie for third.
Columbia opened at 2-under, placing fifth after 18 holes, then posted the low round of the day. John A Logan finished second at 14-under, three strokes back, and Mount Mercy took third at 11-under. William Woods A finished fourth at 10-under.
Marti Jimenez shot 3-under in the first round and 4-under in the second. Blake Hartner and Tom Clarens each finished 4-under to tie for seventh. Hartner opened with an even-par round and followed with a 4-under second round. Clarens shot 1 over in the first round, then carded a 5-under second round.
Blake Sykes shot even par and 2-under to finish 2-under and tie for 10th. Landon Mabe finished 1-under, turning a first-round 1 over into a 2-under second round, and tied for 18th.
Payton Strattman tied for 27th at 1 over. Kelly Welby and Alvaro Alegria tied for 31st at 2 over. Welby opened with a 3-under round, and Alegria shot a 2-under second round. Brody Rader (+7) tied for 52nd and Jackson Trout (+8) tied for 58th. Competing as an individual, Britt Winslow finished 90th at 20 over.
The Cougars return to action at The Statesmen at The Preserve on Oct. 5-6.
