Originally built in 1991, the Cougars' soccer field was named after R. Marvin Owens, a member of the Columbia College Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Finance Committee. During Owens' tenure, the College has made tremendous improvements both in its financial position and in campus facilities. Former Columbia College
President Dr. Donald Ruthenburg first introduced the idea of a new soccer field in 1989. In the summer of 2005 the soccer field was upgraded, giving it a new surface that makes it among the best in the country. The field's dimensions increased to 115 by 80 yards from its previous size of 111 by 66 yards. Two new sets of bleachers were installed to seat 600 fans.
In the summer of 2009 new property was acquired by the College that was renovated and turned into a new locker room to house the soccer team. The soccer locker room sits just to the north of the Southy building and features lockers, showers and laundry facilities.
Following the 2014 Cougar soccer season the existing field and surrounding area was given a complete facelift. The new field was given a new turf surface with a non-competitive turf track around it. There are now four varsity sized locker rooms, an athletic training station, an officials locker room, a state of the art press box complete with video broadcasting capabilities, a concession stand, restrooms for fans and a ticket booth.
