Box Score Sioux City, Iowa - The Columbia Volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to No. 1 ranked Texas at Brownsville in their final pool play match of the 2013 NAIA Volleyball National Championships, presented by J&L Enterprises and CNOS Foundation. The Ocelots defeated the Cougars by scores of 25-13, 25-16, and 25-18. Columbia drops to 30-10 overall with the defeat and finishes 2-1 in pool play, while UTB remains the nation's last remaining unbeaten team and improves to 34-0. Despite the loss, the Cougars will advance to the next round of tournament bracket play on Friday.
Columbia held an early 5-3 lead in game one of the match, but the Ocelots quickly erased the deficit on their way to a 25-13 opening set win. Texas at Brownsville faced little resistance in game two as they cruised to a 25-16 victory for a 2-0 advantage in the match. The Ocelots completed the sweep with a 25-18 win in the third set.
The Cougars were led by
Trinity Ojo with a match-high 13 kills and
Erin Pavlin with nine digs. UTB compiled a .309 hitting percentage behind 12 kills from Annelies Dokter.
Columbia will be back in action at 12:30 pm tomorrow in bracket play when they will face fourth ranked Madonna University who finished second in their pool. Should the Cougars prevail at 12:30 p.m., they would take on second ranked Concordia (Calif.) University at 8:00 p.m. All matches will be played at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
