Box Score St. Louis, Mo. - The Columbia men's basketball team remained unbeaten with an 83-61 road win at conference foe Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars, ranked fourth in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 Poll, improve to 8-0 overall on the season and 2-0 in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play with the victory.
Columbia trailed early in the first half, but used a 9-0 run midway through the frame on their way to a 41-31 halftime lead. The Hornets were able to keep things close by shooting 52 percent from the field, but the Cougars owned an 18-4 advantage in bench points in the opening period, led by
Devin Griffin with 12 points. Columbia stretched its lead out to 14 early in the second half, but Harris-Stowe would battle their way back and cut the Cougar lead to five at 64-59 with 7:44 to play. From there, Columbia would outscore the host squad 19-2 over the remainder of regulation to close out their 44
th straight regular season win.
The Cougars finished at 46 percent (29 of 63) from the field for the game, led by Griffin and
Derrick Dilworth with 24 and 23 points respectively. Dilworth and
Jeremy Nolen each pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and
Chantel Stanciel dished out a game-high six assists.
Columbia will be back in action on Monday, December 9
th when host Central Christian College of the Bible. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
