rd-ranked Kansas Wesleyan University on Sunday afternoon at R. Marvin Owens Soccer Stadium. Columbia, ranked 12
th in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 Poll, falls to 1-1 on the young season with the defeat, while the Coyotes improve to 1-1.
Kansas Wesleyan grabbed an early lead in the match after a foul by the Cougars led to a penalty kick for the visiting squad. The Coyotes' Diego Cocon converted the kick for a 1-0 lead and that score would hold over the remainder of the opening half even with Columbia posting eight shots in the period.
Despite logging 10 more shots in the second half, the Cougars were unable to capitalize on several opportunities on the offensive end over the final 45 minutes as Kansas Wesleyan was able to hold on over the final minutes to complete the victory. Columbia outshot the Coyotes 18 to 6 for the game, but 11 saves by keeper Blessing Ngwa helped preserve the shutout for Kansas Wesleyan.

Matt McKenna posted two saves on the day, but took the loss in goal for the Cougars.
Columbia will return to action tomorrow when they travel to non-conference foe Baker (Kan.) University. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Baldwin City, Kan.
