Cougars take down Lindenwood-Belleville 3-0

Box Score Columbia, Mo. - The Cougar volleyball team bounced back from a loss in their last match to defeat Lindenwood University-Belleville (Ill.) 3-0 on Tuesday night at the Arena of Southwell Complex. Columbia, ranked sixth in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, improves to 7-2 overall on the season with the victory.

With the score tied 3-3 early in game one of the match, the Cougars used a 7-1 run to grab the lead for good. Trinity Ojo and Wenwen Han led Columbia with three kills each in the opening game. The Cougars held a 16-12 advantage midway through the second game, but the Lynx battled back to tie the score at 20. With the score knotted at 25, Columbia was eventually able to close out the game on back-to-back attack errors by Lindenwood-Belleville. The Cougars never trailed in game three as a 9-3 run to start the set allowed them to cruise to a 3-0 win in the match.

Columbia finished with 47 kills and a .340 hitting percentage on the night, led by 11 kills from senior Carol Berger. Junior Lydie van Deursen dished out a match-high 33 assists and senior libero Erin Pavlin led all players with 15 digs.

Taylor Boyer and Chelsi Hummert had 14 and 11 kills to lead the Lynx, respectively.

The Cougars are idle until next week when they travel to conference foe Benedictine University-Springfield (Ill.) on Wednesday, September 25th. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Springfield, Ill.
