Cougars Fall to Lynx in AMC Championship

Belleville, Ill. - The Columbia College men's soccer team fell to Lindenwood University-Belleville in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Postseason Tournament Championship game today by a score of 4-0. The Cougars finish their inaugural season at 11-6-2. With the win, the Lynx will move on to the NAIA National Championships held November 22nd.
The Lynx added their first tally in the 38th minute when Leonardo Ferri found the back of the net after connecting with Enrique Garcia. The score would remain 1-0 heading into the halftime break. The Lynx notched three more goals in the second half in the 69th, 85th, and 88th minute while holding the Cougars scoreless.

The Lynx finished with a 15-3 shot advantage for the game. Daniel Ainsworth and Brady Wulff split time in goal for the Cougars. Ainsworth posted three saves.

Following today's game members of the all-conference team were announced. Forward Nick Horne, midfielder Liam Cain, and goalkeeper Daniel Ainsworth received honorable-mention accolades while midfielder Rasmus Juul Pedersen, defender Matija Ceraj and defender Lakin Kehde all took home First Team Honors. In addition, Horne was also named the league's Newcomer of the Year.

Horne had five goals on the season and a team high six assists for 16 points for the Cougars. He also scored three game winning goals. Cain chipped in three goals and five assists for the season. Ainsworth played in 12 games and had 46 saves posting a 0.902 save percentage. He ranks No. 3 in the NAIA in goals against per game (0.480). Ainsworth was also credited four shutouts this season.

Rasmus Juul Pedersen started in all 18 contests for the Cougars and posted one goal and six assists. Matija Ceraj started in 17 games for Columbia and was a key member of the back line that allowed less than one goal a game (0.778). He also provided some offense with three goals and four assists. Lakin Kehde started in all 18 games for the Cougars and was also a key part of the dominating defense while also picking up an assist.

Columbia will await the release of the NAIA National Tournament bracket in hopes of an at-large bid to the opening round, which kicks off on November 22nd.
