Box Score Columbia, Mo. - The Lady Cougar basketball team defeated American Midwest Conference (AMC) opponent Harris-Stowe State University 80-65 on Saturday afternoon, picking up the regular season series sweep against the Hornets for the sixth straight year. Columbia improves to 16-5 overall and 12-1 in conference play with the victory, their 14
th straight over Harris-Stowe dating back to 2008.
The Lady Cougars scored on seven of their first eight possessions and built a 15-6 lead with just over four minutes gone by in the opening half. Columbia continued their strong offensive execution over the remainder of the first period and took a 46-28 advantage into the halftime break after shooting 52 percent from the field.
Janairrika Bland and
Heather English both reached double figures in the first half and led the Lady Cougars with 10 points each at the break.
Columbia led by double digits throughout the second period and stretched their lead out to 29 points on their way to their 12
th win in 13 games. Bland led three Lady Cougars in double figures with 20 points and nine rebounds to go along with 16 points from English and 10 from
Ashley Fisher. Columbia dished out 19 assists on the afternoon, led by
Tierney Seifert with six. The hornets finished at 35 percent from the floor and were led by Shanique Buford with a game-high 27 points and 15 rebounds.
The Lady Cougars will be back in action on Thursday, February 6
th when they host AMC opponent Park University. Game time is set for 5:30 pm at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
