Box Score Mayfield, Ky. - The Columbia Lady Cougars stretched their latest winning streak to a season-long nine games with a dominating 101-60 win at conference opponent Mid-Continent University on Tuesday night. Columbia improves to 21-5 overall and 17-1 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) with the win and has won 17 of their last 18 games dating back to December 28
th.
The Lady Cougars scored early and often in the first half and jumped out to an 18-6 lead after a three-pointer by
Tierney Seifert at the 12:22 mark. Columbia would continue to shoot lights out from three-point range for the remainder of the period, hitting 10 of 13 attempts from beyond the arc.
Ashley Fisher led the way with 17 points in the frame as the Lady Cougars built a 50-28 halftime advantage.
Columbia's hot shooting continued on into the second half as they stretched their lead out to 30 for much of the period. Seven different Lady Cougars would connect from long range as the squad tied the program record of 17 three-pointers, set back in 2002. Fisher and
Heather English each knocked down 4 of 6 attempts from distance and finished with 17 and 18 points respectively to lead Columbia.
Janairrika Bland added 12 points and
Aqua Corpening rounded out the Lady Cougars in double figures with 11. English also joined the Century Club with her 100
th career victory at Columbia on Tuesday night.
In Tuesday's latest NAIA Top 25 Poll release, the Lady Cougars were ranked No. 12 for the second consecutive week. Vanguard University, the last remaining undefeated squad in the NAIA at 21-0, held the top spot for the ninth straight week followed by fellow AMC member Freed-Hardeman (24-1), who suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday at Lyon College. Columbia will square off against Freed-Hardeman this coming Saturday at the Arena of Southwell Complex at 2:00 pm, where the AMC regular season championship will likely be on the line. Prior to Saturday's showdown, the Lady Cougars will face crosstown foe Stephens College on Thursday, February 20
th. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm at the John and Mary Silverthorne Arena in Columbia.
