Box Score Columbia, Mo. - With a rematch vs. No. 2 ranked Freed-Hardeman looming on Saturday, the Lady Cougar basketball team avoided any type of letdown with a 108-31 win at crosstown foe Stephens College on Thursday night. With the victory, Columbia improves to 22-5 overall (18-1 AMC) and has now won 10 straight games dating back to January 23
rd.
The Lady Cougars scored early and often throughout the first period and took a commanding 57-8 lead into the halftime locker room. Columbia dominated every aspect of the game from the opening tip, shooting 54 percent from the field and outrebounding the Stars 31-13.
Heather English led the Lady Cougars with 16 points at the break.
The outcome was never in doubt in the second half as Columbia cruised to the lopsided win, improving their all-time record to 13-0 against Stephens. The Lady Cougars received scoring contributions from all 11 players and seven finished in double figures, led by English with a game-high 20 points.
Brittany Yost added a season-high 14 points and eight rebounds and Danielle Duncan dished out eight of Columbia's 25 assists.
The Lady Cougars will be back on their home court to host second-ranked Freed-Hardeman (26-1, 18-1 AMC) on Saturday, February 22
nd in the NAIA Game of the Week. The Lady Lions were the last team to defeat Columbia, which came in Henderson, Tenn. back on January 18
th. The American Midwest Conference championship will likely be on the line as the two squads are currently tied atop the league standings. Tip-off for Saturday's game is set for 2:00 pm at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
