Cougars Overpower Stars, Move to No. 7 in NAIA Poll

Box Score Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia Cougar volleyball team pushed their record to 18-2 on the season tonight after sweeping cross-town foe Stephens College by scores of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-7. With the win the Cougars also improve their American Midwest Conference (AMC) record to 2-0 while the Stars of Stephens fall to 6-7 and 1-2 versus league opponents.

In the first game the Cougars jumped out to a 10-point lead and never looked back, putting down 15 kills compared to the Stars' seven. Columbia continued to dominate throughout the second and third game including logging 30 kills out of their 48 attempts and committing just two attack errors. 

Paula Rosa's 13 kills led all players while Manon Soraru chipped in 11 kills. Sarah Schwentker's and AMC Player of the Week Lydie van Deursen also led all players with 14 digs and 33 assists, respectively.

In the third version of the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll the Cougars dropped two spots to No. 7 after posting a 4-1 record last week.  Columbia, one of three AMC teams in the poll again this week, totaled 519 points.  AMC foe Park University stayed at No. 4 for the second week while Missouri Baptist University jumped one spot to No. 19.

The Cougars return to the court on Friday, September 26th when they host new AMC member Lindenwood-Belleville in the Arena of Southwell Complex at 7 p.m.
