Box Score Columbia, Mo.- The Columbia women's soccer team fell to non-conference opponent Missouri Valley College 2-1 this evening. The Cougars fall to 0-3-1 on the year with the defeat, while the Vikings improve to 1-1-1.
The Cougars found the back of the net early when freshman
Jordan Poire scored the first goal within the first five minutes of the first half. Sophomore
Katelyn Palmer and senior
Tori Magaletta assisted on the score. The Vikings had many opportunities to score posting seven shots on goal over the course of the opening 45 minutes, but the Cougars were able to take the 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Vikings were able to get on the board when senior midfielder Kayla Clark scored in the 75
th minute. The Cougar and Viking defense were able to hold each team to one goal sending the match into overtime.
In overtime, the Vikings came out firing with three shots on goal, but failed to find the net until the 94
th minute when freshman Inma Martinez shot from the far left side of the field sailing into the upper right hand corner of the net.
Missouri Valley outshot Columbia College 14 (five on-goal) to six (two on-goal) for the match.
Flavia Rosado picked up three saves in goal for Columbia.
Columbia returns to the field on Saturday, September 13th when they head to Clinton, Iowa to take on Ashford University in a 1 p.m. contest.
