Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cougar Men Hold on for Victory

Conway, Ark. – The 21st-ranked Columbia College men's soccer team extended their latest winning streak to 11 games Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 victory over American Midwest Conference (AMC) opponent Central Baptist College. With the win, Columbia improves to 14-2 on the season and 9-0 in conference play.

After a scoreless first half, the Mustangs finally got on the board in the 60th minute to go ahead 1-0. Four minutes later, Vadim Cojocov found the equalizer after connecting with Dan Reilly. Columbia's Matija Ceraj extended the Cougar lead to 3-1 after heading in a corner kick by Nic Powers in the 73rd minute and scoring on a free kick 18 yards out in the 85th minute.

The Mustangs continued to work to cut the deficit, and with 58 seconds remaining in the game, Ferdinand Matebu scored as a result of a penalty kick to pull them within one. CBC would get one last chance to knot the score with eight seconds left as Matebu took a shot, but the kick went wide, allowing the Cougars to hold on for the victory.

Columbia outshot the Mustangs 13-9 for the game. Iain McTurk (11-0) remains undefeated on the season in goal for Columbia and posted two saves.

Columbia is back on the road on Wednesday, October 21st when they travel to Missouri Baptist University for an AMC contest. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. in St. Louis, Mo.
