Columbia, Mo. – The 16
th-ranked Columbia College men's basketball team defeated American Midwest Conference (AMC) opponent Lyon College by a score of 72-42. With the win, Columbia improves to 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in conference play while the Scots fall to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in league play.
With the score tied at six, Columbia used a 7-0 run, capped off by a
Nic Reynolds three to go ahead 13-6. The Scots responded with a run of their own, scoring six straight points to pull within one at 13-12 midway through the half. The game remained close from there as the score would be tied four different times over the next eight minutes. However, with the score tied at 23, Columbia finally gained separation as they utilized a 12-2 run to carry a 35-25 advantage into the halftime break. Reynolds and
Jackson Dubinski hit back-to-back threes during the run. Lyon shot 53 percent in the half while the Cougars were limited to a 39 percent clip.
Columbia continued to dominate on into the second half and maintained a double-digit lead over the final 20:00 of regulation while leading by as many as 30 on their way to a convincing victory.
The Cougars finished shooting 57 percent on the night, led by Reynolds with a game-high 18 points. Dubinski and
Zach Rockers added 10 points apiece while Rockers also led all players with six rebounds helping Columbia finish with a 34-27 edge on the boards.
Chantel Stanciel handed out a season-high seven assists.
The Cougars return to action next weekend when they host the annual Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic on November 27
th and 28
th. Columbia will face Robert Morris University at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and will wrap up tournament play against Avila University on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
