Box Score Hannibal, Mo. - The 16
th-ranked Cougar women's basketball team picked up a road victory over conference opponent Hannibal-LaGrange University by a score of 86-66 on Saturday afternoon for their 11
th straight victory dating back to the season opener on November 6
th. Columbia improves to 11-0 overall and 5-0 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) with the win. The Trojans fall to 3-7 on the season and 2-3 in league play with the loss.
The Trojans had trouble breaking the Cougar press in the first quarter as Columbia scored 15 straight points to begin the game and led 21-6 after 10 minutes of play. Columbia used a 6-0 run to start the second quarter to extend their lead to 21 and would carry a 44-12 advantage into the halftime break after completely dominating the first half.
HLGU outscored Columbia 29-24 in the third quarter and 25-18 in the fourth quarter, but the Cougars were still able to capture the 86-66 win over the Trojans.
Columbia shot a season high 49 percent from the field while limiting HLGU to a 38 percent clip for the game. The Cougars were led by
Corri Hamilton with a season-high 21 points and eight rebounds.
Morgan Brandt chipped in a season-high 17 points while
Sarah Walters finished with a personal best 12 points.
Martha Imoniana,
Petrolina Chilaka, and
Ashlee Marlatt led Columbia with three assists apiece. The two teams were even on the boards with 35 rebounds apiece, however, the Trojans posted 18 turnovers compared to just eight by the Cougars which proved to be costly.
The Cougars return to the hardwood on Thursday, December 17
th when they host conference foe Lindenwood University-Belleville. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
