Columbia, Mo. - The Cougar women's basketball team won their 13
th straight game on Thursday afternoon, defeating crosstown opponent Stephens College by a score of 95-38 at Silverthorne Arena. Columbia, the 16
th-ranked team in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, improves to 13-0 overall and 7-0 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) with the victory while the Stars fall to 4-9 on the season and 2-5 in league play with the loss.
The Cougars shot a season-high 56 percent (37/66) from the field and 60 percent (6/10) from beyond the arc. Five Cougars ended with double-digit points including
Corri Hamilton with 19 points.
Ashlee Marlatt chipped in 16 points while
Kei'yana Pearson finished with a career-high 15 points.
Petrolina Chilaka and
Morgan Brandt rounded out the scoring with 11 points apiece. Brandt also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds and Pearson handed out four assists to lead all players.
The Stars were held to a 23 percent clip and committed 26 turnovers compared to 13 by Columbia. Dana Heggemann led Stephens with 11 point.
Columbia will return to the hardwood for a conference matchup with Missouri Baptist University on Saturday, January 2
nd. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. in St. Louis, Mo.
