Cougars Advance to AMC Semifinals with Win over Lindenwood-Belleville, 91-71

Box Score Belleville, Ill. - Facing the Lindenwood University-Belleville Lynx for the third time this season, the Columbia women's basketball team came away with a 91-71 victory on Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Tournament. The Cougars, the No. 5 seed in the tournament after posting a 16-8 mark in league play during the regular season, improve to 22-10 overall with the win.

The Cougars took an early 14-5 lead over the Lynx and led 30-14 at the midway point. Columbia took a 49-30 advantage into intermission after shooting 56 percent from the field. The Columbia defense limited LU-B to 44 percent shooting (14 for 32) and pressured the Lynx into 10 turnovers in the first 20 minutes. Senior Tierney Seifert led the Cougars at the break with 12 points on 4 of 6 shooting from three-point range.

Columbia used an 8-2 to push their lead to 25 to begin the second half and maintained a 20 point lead for the remainder of the game. The Cougars shot 55 percent from the field for the game, while holding LU-B to 39 percent from the floor and also owning a 47-32 advantage on the glass.

Six players finished the night in double-digits with Seifert, Brittany Yost, and Ashley Fisher scoring 14 points apiece to lead the Cougars. Aqua Corpening chipped in 12 points and Corri Hamilton posted her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kei'yana Pearson rounded out the scoring with 10 points while Kayla Washington threw out a season-high five assists.

Members of the AMC All-Academic Team were recognized prior to the start of Thursday's game. Representatives from Columbia included Petrolina Chilaka, Kei'yana Pearson, Samantha Cavlovich, Tierney Seifert, Corri Hamilton, Ashley Fisher

Lindenwood-Bellevilles' Shelby Kohrmann led all players with 23 points.

Due to inclement weather and one of tonight's quarterfinal games being postponed to tomorrow, both semifinal games have been moved to Saturday, March 7th. Columbia will travel to No. 1 seed and top-ranked Freed-Hardeman in the tournament semifinals with a berth in the AMC Championship game on the line.
