Box Score 2 Bourbonnais, Ill. - The 12
th-ranked Cougar volleyball squad earned a pair of victories after conquering No. 22 Grand View University 20-25, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-23 and the host Olivet Nazarene University 26-24, 25-20, and 25-20 today in day one of Holiday Inn Express Classic. The victories improve the Cougars overall record to 8-4.
After stumbling in the opening game the Cougars got back on track against Grand View and took the final three sets.Â
Amber Graham had a season-high 17 kills to lead the match while
Penny Liu finished with 15 and
Polina Severina recorded 10. Junior setter
Sashiko Heredia and
Mikah Simpson led all players with 55 assists and 16 digs, respectively.
The Cougars and Tigers played three very tight sets in the second match of the day, but Columbia prevailed each time, earning the sweep over the host squad.
Columbia hit 0.306 and tallied 52 kills while the Tigers hit 0.202 and had 30 kills for the match. Graham led the attack with 17 kills.
Eirini Chatziefstratiadou hit 0.800 in the match, recording 13 kills in 15 attempts. Liu also ended with double-digit kills with 12. Heredia led the match with 46 assists while Simpson had 11 digs.
The Cougars wrap up play in the Holiday Inn Express Classic tomorrow when they face Davenport University at 9:00 a.m. and (RV) Cornerstone University at 3 p.m.
