Box Score Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the 18
th ranked Columbia College women's soccer team took on Stephens (Mo.) College in an AMC matchup. The Cougars defeated the Stars by a score of 11-0 to extend their winning streak to five straight games. With the win tonight, Columbia College improves to 13-1-2 on the season.
The Cougars got on the board within the first minute of the game when
Laurie Frew chipped a ball over the top of the Stars defense finding
Tiffany Weaver who slid the ball into the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season. The Cougars continued to apply the pressure to Stephens College and made the game 2-0 when Weaver made a run down the sideline and played a cross into the middle of the box finding
Kelsey Mirts who was able to get a touch on the ball and put it into the top right corner of the net for her ninth goal this season.
Kelsey Mirts added her second goal of the game in the 21
st minute when she was able to finish off a breakaway opportunity to put the Cougars ahead 3-0.
Katelyn Palmer added to the Cougars lead with just under 20 minutes remaining in the half when
Laurie Frew found her at the top of the box and she blasted her shot into the top right hand corner of the net for her third goal of the season. Palmer was back at it again just a few minutes later when the ball bounced to her at the top of the box and she hit an almost identical shot into the top right hand corner of the net to put the Cougars ahead 5-0. Columbia College tallied one more goal in the half to go up 6-0 when
Laurie Frew was able to finish off her team leading 12
th goal of the season.
The second half of the game was much of the same for the Cougars as they added five more goals to their lead.
Lucy Kingsley had her seventh and eighth goals of the season within the first 10 minutes of the second half to put the Cougars ahead 8-0.
Amy Bolton had her third goal of the season when the Cougars earned a free kick at the top of the box and Bolton buried her shot to put Columbia College ahead 9-0.
Katie Cook added to the Cougars lead in the 67
th minute when she finished off a pass from
Carlie Howe for her fourth goal this season.
Sammie Bauer had the 11
th and final goal for Columbia College in the last five minutes of the game when she finished off a pass from
Carlie Howe for her second goal of the season.
Flavia Rosado and
Madison Boyken split time in goal tonight for the Cougars combining for their teams thirteenth shutout of the season and their fifth in a row. The two keepers combined for two saves in the match.
The Cougars are back in action on Wednesday, October 26
th when they take on Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University in an AMC matchup. The match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. at R. Marvin Owen's Field in Columbia. This game will serve as the senior night game and before the match the seniors will be honored.
