Cougars Bounce Back to Sweep Vangaurd

Columbia, Mo. – This morning the 25th ranked Columbia College women's volleyball team took on Vangaurd (Calif.) University in a non-conference matchup. The Cougars were able to defeat the Lions in three straight sets (25-22, 25-21, 25-17) to improve to 16-11 on the season.

In the first set of the match, both teams battled point for point as neither side could break away. With the game tied at 20, the Cougars were finally able to break away from the Lions after going on a 5-2 run to close out the game and took the first set by a score of 25-22. Columbia College was led by Eirini Chatziefstratiadou who had a great game picking up six kills on six attacks.

The second set started with the Cougars jumping out in front of the Lions after going on an 8-3 run. The Lions battled back in the set but were unable to catch up to the Cougars as they took the second game by a score of 25-21. In the third game, both teams exchanged points early in the set. The Cougars found themselves down 10-7 in the game but went on a 7-1 run to take back the lead and went on the take the game by a score of 25-17 to complete the three game sweep.

Columbia College had a great game offensively as five Cougars had at least eight kills in the match with Peiyi Liu picking up a match high 14 kills in the contest. Liu also had a great game defensively as she was able to add 16 digs to her impressive numbers this season. Sashiko Heredia had another great game running the offense for the Cougars as she tallied a match high 33 assists in the contest.

The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday, October 25th when they take on Hannibal-LaGrange University in an AMC matchup. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Southwell Athletic Complex.
