Box Score Batesville, Ark. – This afternoon the Columbia College volleyball team traveled to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on Lyon (Ark.) College in an AMC matchup. The Cougars have been playing great volleyball as of late and were able to sweep the Scots in three straight sets (25-10, 25-17, 25-22) to improve their overall record to 11-8 on the season. The win marks the third in a row for the defending National Champions and their ninth in their last 10 matches with their only loss coming to the 15
th ranked Missouri Baptist University Spartans on September 30
th.
The Cougars came out in the first set on a mission as they were able to jump out to an early 10-2 lead in the game. They added a 7-2 run later in the game to cruise to a 25-10 victory in the set. Columbia College was led by
Peiyi Liu who had four kills on six attacks in the game. The second set started off a lot closer than the first but with the score tied at eight the Cougars were able to go on a 7-1 run and took the second game by a score of 25-17. Columbia College had 10 kills on 33 attempts in the set.
The third set was very similar to the second with both teams exchanging points early in the game. The Scots were able to hang with the Cougars for most of the set and put themselves in position to win late when they tied the score at 22. However, the Cougars were able to win the last three points of the set and took it by a final score of 25-22 to complete the three game sweep. Liu and
Johanna Mueller each had a kill late in the game to solidify the victory for the Cougars.
Columbia College was led by
Peiyi Liu who had a match high 11 kills on a .450 attacking percentage and
Gabriela Walton who had a match high 10 digs. The Cougars also picked up 24 assists from
Sashiko Heredia as she added to her streak of great games for Columbia College.
The Cougars are back in action tomorrow night when they travel to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, to take on Williams Baptist (Ark.) College in an AMC matchup. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m.
