Box Score Conway, Ark. – Tonight the sixth ranked Columbia College men's basketball team traveled to Conway, Arkansas, to take on Central Baptist College in their first AMC game of the season. The Cougars were able to continue their winning streak and improved to 5-0 on the season after defeating the Mustangs by a final score of 87-75.
The Cougars offense was rolling in the first half going 20-25 from the field including seven three point shots to take a 49-39 lead into halftime. The game started out with both team exchanging points early. With the score tied at five, the Cougars were able to go on an 11-2 run to take a 16-7 lead. The Mustangs battled back and cut the lead to two but Columbia College closed out the half on a 16-8 run to take a 10 point lead. Columbia College was led by
Nic Reynolds who had 14 points in the half.
The Cougars came out of the halftime break and had a tough time finding the basket going 4-12 to start the second half. The Mustangs were able to crawl back into the game and cut Columbia's lead to four after forcing the Cougars to turn the ball over and finishing a layup at the other end of the floor.
Malik Ray stepped up for Columbia midway through the half and scored four of the Cougars next nine points to extend the lead back to 11. They were able to go on a 10-4 run late in the game to take a commanding lead over the Mustangs and closed it out to solidify their first conference win of the season.
Columbia College had four players finish with double figures including
Nic Reynolds who had a game high 23 points. Additionally,
Preston Whitfield had 17 points,
Jackson Dubinski had 13 points, and
Nathan Biggs added 10 points to round out the top scorers for the Cougars.
Malik Ray was a monster on the glass tonight bringing in a game high 10 rebounds.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, November 19
th when they travel to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on Lyon College in an AMC matchup. The game is set to tip-off at 2 p.m.
