Box Score Conway, Ark. – Tonight the 20
th ranked Columbia College women's basketball team traveled to Conway, Arkansas, to take on Central Baptist College in their first AMC matchup of the season. The Cougars came into this game after winning their first three games of the season and were able to continue their winning streak after defeating the Mustangs by a final score of 86-46.
Columbia College came out firing in the first half draining two three point shots to start the game and jumped out to an early 6-0 lead. The Cougars lead grew all the way to ten before the Mustangs started to battle back and cut down the score. In the second quarter, Central Baptist cut the lead all the way down to three but Columbia College went on a 10-1 run and never looked back in the half as they took a 39-30 lead into the halftime break. The Cougars were led by
Grey Hayes and
Jordan Alford who each had nine points in the half.
Columbia College came out in the second half and picked up right where they left off starting the third quarter on a 10-0 run.
Morgan Brandt led the charge for the Cougars picking up five points during the run including a three pointer to put Columbia ahead by 16. The Mustangs tried desperately to get back into the game but the shots were not falling for them tonight as they were never able to cut down the deficit. The Cougars defense was all over the place in the second half holding Central Baptist to just 16 points on their way to their first conference win of the season.
There were three scorers in double figures for Columbia College in this game including
Ashlee Marlatt who had a game high 19 points. Additionally,
Jordan Alford had 18 points and
Grey Hayes added 12 points to round out the top scorers for the Cougars.
Morgan Brandt did a great job controlling the boards for Columbia College in this game bringing down a game high seven rebounds in the contest.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, November 19
th when they travel to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on ninth ranked Lyon College in an AMC matchup. The Scots are 3-1 on the season with their only loss coming in a double overtime defeat to College of the Ozarks (Mo.), who ranks seventh in NAIA Division II, in their first game of the season. The game is set to tip-off at 12 p.m.
