Box Score Batesville, Ark. – This afternoon the 20
th ranked Columbia College women's basketball team traveled to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on ninth ranked Lyon College in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were unable to handle to the Scots in the game and were defeated by a final score of 70-56. With the loss, the Cougars are now 4-1 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
The Cougars got off to a quick start in the first quarter as they were able to jump out to an 8-2 lead over the Scots in the first four minutes of the game.
Jordan Alford led the charge for Columbia College knocking down her first three shots of the contest, including two three pointers, to put the Cougars ahead. The Scots battled back in the game tied the score at 15 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter started the same as the first with
Jordan Alford burying a three point shot and then hitting a free throw to put the Cougars ahead by four points with eight minutes remaining in the half. Lyon College came to life midway through the second quarter and went on a 16-4 run at the end of the half to take a 35-27 lead into halftime. Columbia College was led by
Jordan Alford who had 12 points in the half.
The Cougars came out in the second half and had a tough time finding the basket. The Scots momentum from the end of the first half was able to carry over into the third quarter and their lead grew to 16 to start the fourth. Columbia College tried desperately to get back into the game and went on a 15-2 run in the final quarter but it was too late as the Scots were able to hold off the Cougars to solidify their victory.
Columbia College had three players in double figures including
Jordan Alford who had a game high 17 points. Additionally,
Raegan Wieser had 14 points and
Morgan Brandt added 12 points to go along with a team high nine rebounds to round out the top scorers in tonight's contest.
Columbia College is back in action next weekend when they travel to Jackson, Tennessee, to compete in the Jackson Rotary Invitational. The Cougars will take on sixth ranked Vangaurd (Calif.) University on Friday, Novemeber 25
th at 12:30 p.m. and then match up against 25
th ranked Carroll (Mont.) College on Saturday, November 26
th at 8:30 a.m.
