Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the Columbia College women's volleyball team took on Williams Baptist (Ark.) College in an AMC Quarterfinal match. The Cougars were able to sweep the Eagles in three straight sets (25-11, 25-14, 25-12) and will advance to the AMC Semifinals in St. Louis, Missouri, this weekend. Before the game, the AMC honored its Academic All-Conference recipients from each team. Columbia College had seven players honored tonight including:
Taylor Davis,
Sashiko Heredia,
Susannah Kelley,
Peiyi Liu,
Sami Meyer,
Johanna Mueller, and
Gabriela Walton. To be eligible for this award, student athletes must be in their second semester at their AMC institution and have at least a 3.0 GPA. Their efforts on and off the court are an accomplishment we at Columbia College do not take lightly and are very proud of.
In the first set of the match, both teams exchanged points to start the game. The Cougars were finally able to break away from the Eagles when they went on a 13-2 run in the middle of the game to take control of the set. Columbia College cruised to a 25-11 victory in the game and held Williams Baptist to just seven kills on 27 attacks. The Cougars carried that momentum over into the second set and quickly jumped out to a 6-3 lead over the Eagles. Williams Baptist caught up to Columbia College and tied the game at seven but that was the closest they would get as the Cougars went on 9-1 run and took the second set by a score of 25-14.
The third set was much of the same for Columbia College as they jumped all over the Eagles to start the game. The Cougars opened up the set picking up four kills from four different players to break out in front of Williams Baptist. They were able to hold onto that lead throughout the game and took the third set 25-12 to complete the three game sweep.
The Cougars were led by
Sashiko Heredia who had a match high 39 assists and added a match high 10 digs in the contest as she was able to spread the ball all over the floor tonight.
Caroline Clifford had a match high 13 kills,
Peiyi Liu had 12 kills, and
