Columbia, Mo. – The American Midwest Conference has announced the basketball players of the week for the week ending December 11
th, 2016. For the first time in her career, Columbia College forward
Raegan Wieser was named as this week's Player of the Week after her performances against Baker (Kan.) University and Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University.
Wieser, a 5-11 freshman forward from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, helped the Cougars to a pair of wins during the week, including a big non-conference victory over 12
th ranked Baker (Kan.) University. Wieser had 17 points against the Wildcats, and she helped seal the win with 1:26 to play in the game. Weiser nailed a 3-pointer to stretch the Cougars' lead to 66-60, a shot which was the last made field goal in the game for the Cougars in their 69-65 win. Wieser followed up that performance with her third double-double of the year in an 89-36 win over Hannibal-LaGrange University in AMC Play. In the win over the Trojans, Wieser had 14 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and four blocked shots.
Wieser has played a big role in the 13
th ranked Cougars impressive 10-1 start which includes wins over three top 25 opponents. In 11 starts this season, she is averaging 10.76 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game and has only missed two of her 26 free throws. Her 0.923 percentage from the charity stripe is the best on the team that currently ranks third in the NAIA in free throw percentage (0.764).
The Cougars are back in action on Thursday, December 15
th when they travel to Belleville, Illinois, to take on 23
rd ranked Lindenwood University-Belleville (Ill.) in an AMC matchup. The Lynx are currently 7-3 on the season and are coming off of an 81-68 loss to William Penn (Iowa) University. The game is set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
