Columbia, Mo. – The 7
th-ranked Cougar women's basketball team got back on track this evening as they scored a season-high 110 points against American Midwest Conference (AMC) foe Park University. The Cougars took down the visiting squad 110-48 at the Arena of Southwell Complex to improve to 26-3 overall and 20-3 in conference play. The Pirates fall to 10-15 on the season and 10-13 in league play with the loss.
The Cougars absolutely dominated play in the first half as they held a 47-8 advantage at intermission. The Pirates struggled getting past the Cougar defense as they didn't score their first field goal until 14 minutes into the game.
Columbia shot 52 percent from the field while limiting the Pirates to just 14 percent shooting. The Cougars also held a 23-13 advantage on the boards.
Petrolina Chilaka led all players in the half with 11 points while
Ashlee Marlatt had 10.
Columbia outscored Park 34-27 in the third quarter and 29-13 in the fourth to run away with the 110-48 lopsided victory.
The Cougars finished shooting 59 percent (39/66) from the field, 52 percent (14/27) from three point range, and 72 percent (18/25) from the free throw line. The Pirates struggled as they shot just 23 percent from the field and 20 percent from beyond the arc. Columbia was able to convert 20 Park turnovers into 37 points and score 22 second chance points.
All 13 Cougars cracked the scoring column with five players ending in double digits. Chilaka led the way with 18 points while
Caprese Marshall chipped in a season-high 14 points.
Corri Hamilton and
Kei'yana Pearson had 13 points apiece while Marlatt finished with 10.
Brittany Yost pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to help Columbia finish with a 52-27 advantage on the boards while Pearson handed out a career-high eight assists.
Prior to Thursday's game, Marshall, Pearson, Chilaka, Yost and Hamilton were recognized for Senior Day.
In addition, Hamilton was recognized for earning her 100
th career win, making her the 9
th Cougar player in women's basketball history to join the Century Club. In her four years Corri has a record of 101 wins and 29 losses.
The Cougars will close out the regular season on the road vs. conference foe William Woods University on Saturday, February 27
th. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m. in Fulton, Mo.
