Belleville, Ill. – The 4
th-ranked Cougar women's basketball team picked up a road victory over American Midwest Conference (AMC) opponent Lindenwood University-Belleville by a score of 97-67 on Thursday evening to pick up the regular season sweep over the Lynx. With the win, Columbia improves to 22-1 overall and 16-1 in league play while the Lynx fall to 8-15 and 8-9 with the loss.
The Cougars outscored the Lynx 24-10 in the first quarter and 21-11 in the second to carry a 45-21 advantage into the halftime break. Columbia shot 41 percent in the half while Lindenwood-Belleville shot just 31 percent from the field.
Brittany Yost and
Petrolina Chilaka led all players with 10 points apiece.
Columbia continued to control the game as they led 73-41 after three quarters of play and ran away with the 97-67 lopsided victory.
The Cougars finished shooting 53 percent from the field while limiting the Lynx to a 42 percent clip and also controlled the boards, outrebounding the home team 37-30. Columbia shot well at the line, making 17-of-23 to finish at 74 percent and shot 45 percent (10/22) from beyond the arc. Columbia took advantage of 26 turnovers to score 32 points and also had 49 points from the bench and 18 second chance points. Yost led the Cougar offense with a season-high 18 points while Chilaka and
Corri Hamilton chipped in 17 and 13 points, respectively.
Morgan Brandt led Columbia with seven rebounds while Yost,
Martha Imoniana,
Hannah Sutton and
Ashlee Marlatt dished out three assists apiece
The Lynx were led by Torre Kohrmann 29 points and 11 rebounds. Rilea Huff also finished in double-digits with 20 points.
Columbia will return home for another AMC matchup as they host Hannibal-LaGrange University on Saturday, February 6
th. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m. at Southwell Complex.
