Cougars Down Trojans, 79-54

Columbia, Mo. - The Columbia College men's basketball team, ranked No. 3 in the NAIA, earned a home victory over Hannibal-LaGrange University on Saturday evening by a score of 79-54 to pick up the regular season sweep over the Trojans. The Cougars improve to 22-3 and 15-2 in AMC play with the win, while the Trojans fall to 5-15 overall and 4-12 in league play with the loss.

The Cougars led 19-12 at the midway point and carried a 50-24 advantage into the halftime break after shooting 62 percent from the field. Nic Reynolds posted 12 first half points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc while Zach Rockers chipped in 10 points. Columbia also held a 19-13 advantage on the boards. The Trojans were held to a 33 percent clip and were led by Tim Pace with 10 points.

Hannibal-LaGrange opened the second half on a 9-2 run to erase some of the halftime deficit, however the Cougars would respond with a 10-2 run to make it 62-35 and never looked back from there, leading by as many as 32 on their way to victory.

Columbia finished shooting 44 percent from the field while limiting the Trojans to 32 percent shooting. The Cougars shot well from the free throw line, making 18-of-22 attempts to finish shooting 82 percent. Reynolds led all players with 16 points while Rockers ended with 14 points. Nathan Biggs and Chantel Stanciel also finished in double-digit scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Jesse Brown pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to help the Cougars finish with a 43-33 advantage on the boards while Stanciel and Travis Vogt dished out three assists apiece.

Pace led the Trojans with 11 points.

The Cougars return to action on Saturday, February 13th when they host AMC foe Missouri Baptist University. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. on Bob Burchard Court in Southwell Complex.
