St. Louis, Mo. – Tonight the seventh ranked Columbia College men's soccer team traveled to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on St. Louis College of Pharmacy. The Cougars defeated the Eutectics by a score of 11-0 improving their winning streak to four straight games.
It was all Cougars in the first half as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead before the halftime break.
Mitchell Conning led the way for Columbia College in the first half with three goals in the first 25 minutes of the game including two within 30 seconds of each other. His first goal came just three minutes into the contest when
Mark Steiniger found Conning in the box who flicked it past the keeper and into the back of the net for his first goal of the season. He added a second goal in the contest in the 25
th minute when
Michael Mayberry found Conning who ripped his shot into the back of the net to put the Cougars ahead 4-0. His final goal of the half came just 15 seconds later when he brought the ball down the field and blasted a shot into the corner of the net to complete his hat trick.
Michael Mayberry added two first half goals to the Cougars total with his first coming in the seventh minute of the game off of a pass from
Juan Pablo Agredo. His second goal came in the 28
th minute when
Cameron Durst played a ball from the back to Mayberry who only had the keeper to beat and he slid it into the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season.
Juan Pablo Agredo added his second goal of the season and
Joey Koetting had his first as the Cougars outshot the Eutectics 20-0 in the half.
The second half was all
Joey Koetting as he tacked on his second goal of the game four minutes into the second half when
Brett Bales made a run up the middle of the field and found
Matheus Lima who blasted a shot at the Eutectic keeper. The goalie was able to make the save but Koetting was there to finish the rebound and put the Cougars up 8-0. Koetting completed his hat trick in the 62
nd minute when
Carter Cox beat a defender to the end line and played a ball across the box to Koetting who volleyed it into the back of the net. Koetting added a fourth goal to his impressive game in the 73
rd minute off a pass from Nicolas Horne to put the Cougars ahead 10-0.
Carter Cox finished off the scoring for the Cougars after he drew a foul in the box and buried his penalty shot into the lower left hand corner of the net in the 80
th minute for his first goal of the season.
The Cougars outshot the Eutectics 45-2 in the game and had 24 shots on goal.
Iain McTurk and
Andrew Bare were in goal for the Cougars tonight picking up the second shutout of the season for the Cougars recording two save between the two of them.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, September 24
th when they take on Missouri Baptist University. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field in Columbia.
