Box Score St. Louis, Mo. – Tonight the Columbia College volleyball team traveled to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on St. Louis College of Pharmacy in an AMC matchup. The Cougars picked up the win tonight after sweeping the Eutectics in three straight sets (25-16, 25-14, 25-11) and improving to 7-7 on the season. Despite getting off to a slow start this year, the reigning National Champions have been on a tear as of late. The Cougars have won six of their last seven matches, including the last five in a row, with their only loss coming to the fifth ranked Viterbo (Wis.) University V-Hawks in the Olivet Nazarene Holiday Inn Express Invite Tournament.
The first set started off closely as the Eutectics were able to keep up with the Cougars. With Columbia College leading 14-12 midway through the game, the Cougars were able to go on a 9-2 run and cruise to a 25-16 victory.
Caroline Clifford led the way for Columbia College with five kills on eleven attacks in the set.
The Cougars went on a 13-1 run with the score tied at 13 in the second set to break away from the Eutectics and take the second game by a score of 25-14. Columbia College picked up 13 kills on 32 attacks for a .343 attacking percentage in the win. The Cougars were able to use their momentum from the second set and take the third set easily, winning it by a score of 25-11 to complete the three game sweep. The Cougars used an 8-0 run midway through the game to get past the Eutectics and had 12 kills in the set.
Columbia College was led once again by the National Player of the Week,
Peiyi Liu, as she was able to pick up a match high 13 kills and added 12 digs in the contest.
Sashiko Heredia had a match high 38 assists and Samantha Meyer added 12 digs to lead the Cougars to the victory.
Columbia College is back in action on Tuesday, September 27
th when they take on Stephens College in Columbia. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Southwell Athletic Complex on the campus of Columbia College.
