Box Score St. Louis, Mo. – Tonight the 12
th ranked Columbia College women's basketball team was back in action when they traveled to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were defeated by the Hornets by a final score of 68-41 and fell to 17-4 on the season and 11-4 in conference play. With the win, Harris-Stowe improves to 14-6 overall.
The Cougars came out in the first quarter and had a tough time scoring the ball. They started the game just 2-8 from the field, including 0-3 from beyond the arc, and let the Hornets jump out to an early lead. Columbia College continued to struggle on the offensive end as the half progressed and found themselves trailing 29-21 at the halftime break.
Mai Nienhueser had six points to lead the Cougars in the half.
Columbia College picked up their defensive efforts to start the second half and forced the Hornets to turn the ball over several times in the third quarter. However, they were unable to take advantage on the other end and were limited to just five points in the period. The Cougars found themselves down by 20 to start the final quarter and were never able to get back into the game as the Hornets closed out the Cougars down the stretch and snapped Columbia's five game winning streak.
Columbia College was led by
Raegan Wieser who finished with 11 points. In addition to Wieser,
Grey Hayes added seven points and
Morgan Brandt had a team high six rebounds to round out the top performers for the Cougars.
Columbia College is back in action on Saturday, January 28
th when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on St. Louis College of Pharmacy (Mo.) in an AMC contest. The Cougars defeated the Eutectics by a final score of 119-39 in their last matchup where
Alexis Uffmann broke the single game assists record with 14 in the contest. The game is set to tip-off at 2 p.m.
