Marlatt Leads Cougars Past Eutectics

Box Score St. Louis, Mo. – This afternoon the 12th ranked Columbia College women's basketball team was back in action when they traveled to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on St. Louis College of Pharmacy in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were able to bounce back after their loss on Thursday and defeated the Eutectics by a final score of 64-36. With the win, Columbia College improves to 18-4 on the season and 12-4 in conference play.

The Cougars came out in the first half and were firing on all cylinders. They were able to knock down their first five shots of the game, including three shots from beyond the arc, to jump out to an early 13-2 lead in the first quarter. Columbia College played tough defense in the half and forced the Eutectics to turn the ball over 12 times while holding them to just six field goals in the period. The Cougars continued to shoot the ball well as the half progressed and were able to grow their lead to as much as 24 midway through the second quarter. Despite being down, the Eutectics battled back in the final minutes of the half and cut the cougars lead to 42-23 at the halftime break. Columbia College was led by Raegan Wieser who finished with 10 points in the half.

The Cougars took it to the Eutectics to start the second half and were able to go on a 14-0 run to take a 56-23 lead midway through the third quarter. The Eutectics did their best to get back into the game but they had a tough time finding the openings in Columbia's defense as they were held to just three field goals in the second half. The Cougars had trouble scoring the ball in the fourth quarter but the damage had already been done and Columbia was able to cruise to their 12th win in conference play.

Columbia College was led by Ashlee Marlatt who finished with a game high 16 points. In addition to Marlatt, Hannah Sutton added 11 points and Raegan Wieser finished with 12 points to round out the top performers for the Cougars.

Columbia College is back in action on Thursday, February 2nd when they host Lindenwood University-Belleville (Ill.) in an AMC contest. The Cougars will look to avenge their loss from earlier in the season to the Lynx when they were defeated 68-63 in Belleville, Illinois, on December 15th. The game is set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
