Columbia, Mo. – This morning the American Midwest Conference announced its men's and women's basketball players of the week for the week ending January 1
st, 2017. For the first time this season, Columbia College guard
Ashlee Marlatt was named as this week's Player of the Week after her performances in two straight conference wins.
Marlatt, a 5-6 sophomore guard from St. James, Missouri, helped the Cougars to a pair of AMC wins during the week. She scored 19 points in a perfect shooting night on Thursday, as she made 6-of-6 shots from the floor, 4-of-4 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-3 from the foul line in a 91-42 win over Stephens College. She followed that up with a 15-point, four rebound, and four assist effort as the Cougars took an 88-58 win over Missouri Baptist University on Saturday.
Marlatt has been one of the keys to the Cougars impressive 12-2 start this season. In 14 starts this year, she is averaging 12.1 points per game and has finished in double figures in eight of those starts. She currently ranks 13
th in the NAIA in steals (35) as well as 23
rd in total three point field goals made (32) while shooting 41 percent from the field and 38 percent from behind the three point line.
The Cougars are back in action on Thursday, January 5
th when they travel to Henderson, Tennessee, to take on top ranked Freed-Hardeman University in an AMC matchup. The game is set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
