Box Score Henderson, Tenn. – Tonight the twelfth ranked Columbia College women's basketball team traveled to Henderson, Tennessee, to take on top ranked Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University in the AMC Game of the Week. The Lions came into this game with a perfect 14-0 record and were able to continue their winning streak as they defeated the Cougars by a final score of 67-44. With the loss, Columbia College falls to 12-3 on the season and 6-3 in conference play.
The Cougars came out in the first half and had a tough time shooting the ball. The Lions were able to take advantage in the first quarter and took a seven point lead into the second. Columbia College was finally able to fight back as the half progressed and cut the Lions lead down to five after going on a 7-2 run midway through the second quarter. However, the Cougars were unable to score in the final three minutes of the half and found themselves down 27-19 at the halftime break. Columbia College was led by
Morgan Brandt who had seven points and six rebounds in the half.
The Cougars looked to get back into the game in the third but were unable as the Lions NAIA leading field goal percentage defense made it difficult for Columbia to find the basket. They held the Cougars to just a 28.85 shooting percentage in the game and forced Columbia to turn the ball over 20 times as they were able to close out the Cougars down the stretch and remained unbeaten on the season.
Columbia College was led by the AMC Player of the Week,
Ashlee Marlatt, who finished with a team high 12 points.
Morgan Brandt was the leader on the boards tonight as she brought down a team high eight rebounds in the contest.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, January 7
th when they travel to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, to take on Williams Baptist (Ark.) University in an AMC matchup. The game is set to tip off at 1 p.m.
