St. Louis, Mo. – The thirteenth ranked Columbia College volleyball team was back in action tonight as they traveled to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on the Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University Hornets in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were able to sweep the Hornets in three straight sets (25-20, 25-16, 25-18) to improve to 20-3 on the season and 6-1 in conference play.

In the first set, the Cougars took a quick 4-0 lead to start the match. The Hornets inched their way back in tying the set 13-13 midway through. Columbia used a 7-4 run to go up 20-17 late in the set but Harris-Stowe was able to come back and cut the Cougars lead to one. However, that was as close as they would get as the Cougars pulled away to win the first set 25-20.

Columbia took the early lead in the second set going up 7-4. The Hornets continued to battle, but found themselves down 14-6 midway through the game. The Cougars would remain in control and take the second set 25-16.

To start the third set the Cougars quickly jumped out to a 5-2 lead. The Hornets would come right back cutting the deficit to one before Columbia used a 7-3 run to go up 12-7 midway through the final set. Harris-Stowe came within one point two more times before the Cougars were able to pull away and win the final set by a score of 25-18.

Caroline Clifford led the way for the Cougars with 11 kills. Jordan Wolfe and Pamela Jaime both chipped in seven kills. Yamilet Velazquez had a match high 26 assists.
