Cougars Advance to AMC Finals With 4-1 Win Over Lynx

Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the seventh ranked Columbia College women's soccer team was back in action when they played host to the Lindenwood University-Belleville (Ill.) Lynx in the AMC Semifinals. The Cougars were able to defeat the Lynx by a final score of 4-1 to improve to 19-1 on the season and 12-1 against AMC opponents.

Columbia College came out in the first half of the game and controlled the possession early in the contest. It took them just 14 minutes into the game to get on the board as Molly Klein was able to chase down a ball over the top from Sarah Taylor and hit a shot that snuck just under the crossbar. The goal was Kleins fifth goal in two games and brought her season total to 15 on the year. Abigail Meyer was able to add a second goal for the Cougars as she was able to knock her shot past the Lynx keeper and into the back of the net for her fourth tally of the season to give Columbia a 2-0 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the period. The Lynx did their best to get back into the game before halftime but were unable to find the back of the net as the score remained 2-0 heading into the halftime break.

The Cougars came out in the second half and were able to get a quick third goal to start the period. Kelsey Mirts (18) had the goal for Columbia as she received a ball from Abigail Meyer at the top of the box before weaving around several defenders and sliding it past the Lynx keeper to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead. Lindenwood-Belleville was able to cut Columbia's lead to 3-1 with 30 minutes remaining the game but the Cougars responded quickly and increased their lead to 4-1 following Lucy Kingsley's 10th goal of the season. The Lynx battled down the final stretch of the game but were unable to get back into it as the Cougars closed out the match solidifying their spot in the AMC Finals.

Madison Boyken was in goal for Columbia as the senior made two saves in the contest.

The Cougars are back in action on Thursday, November 9th when they play host to the winner of the other AMC Semifinals match between the William Woods (Mo.) University Owls and the Park (Mo.) University Pirates in the AMC Finals. The game is set to start at 6 p.m. on R. Marvin Owen's Field.
