Box Score Henderson, Tenn. – Tonight the 16th ranked Columbia College women's basketball team was back in action when they traveled to Henderson, Tennessee to take on the second ranked Freed-Hardeman University Lions in the AMC Game of the Week. The Cougars fell to the Lions by a final score of 66-73. Columbia is now 6-5 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.
The game was very tight from the start. Steady defense was being played on both ends. The Cougars were able to hold a one point lead 17-16 after the first. The intensity continued as the second quarter was underway. Both teams exchanged baskets for the entirety of the second quarter. Columbia headed into halftime trailing 32-33. Columbia shot 40 percent from the field and 36 percent from beyond the arc after the first half. Raegan Wieser led all scorers with 12 points.
The third quarter started out much like the first, but the Lions were able to grab some space as the quarter progressed and led 50-41 with four minutes to go in the third. The Cougars looked to battle back as they trailed 47-56 going into the final quarter of play. The Lions were able to maintain their lead throughout the quarter, but the Cougars were not going down without a fight. Columbia cut the lead to five with under a minute to play, but would not be able to overcome Freed-Hardeman as they fell 66-73.
Columbia was led by Morgan Brandt who recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. In addition, Raegan Wieser contributed 17 points and six rebounds, while Jordan Alford chipped in 12 points in the contest.
Columbia is back in action on Saturday, December 16th when they travel to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas to face Williams Baptist College in an AMC matchup. The game is set to tip-off at 1:00 p.m.
