Marlatt Leads Cougars to Fifth Straight Win

Box Score St. Louis, Mo. – This afternoon the 13th ranked Columbia College women's basketball team was back in action when they traveled to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on Missouri Baptist University in an AMC matchup. The Cougars defeated the Spartans by a final score of 110-58 and improved to 22-4 on the season and 16-4 in conference play. With the loss, Missouri Baptist drops to 9-15 on the season.

Columbia College came out in the first half of the game and were rolling on the offensive end. They jumped out to an early 15-9 lead in the first quarter and did not show any signs of slowing down as they were able to take a 30-17 lead into the second. The Cougars continued to push the tempo as the half progressed and their lead grew to 55-29 at the halftime break. Columbia College was led by
Ashlee Marlatt who had 17 points in the half.

The Spartans did their best to get back into the game at the start of the second half and went on a 6-2 run to open the third quarter to cut Columbia's lead down to 19. However, that was as close as they would get as the Cougars answered with a 15-5 run of their own to take a commanding lead in the contest. Columbia College continued to knock down their shots down the final stretch of the game and cruised to their fifth straight victory.

The Cougars were led by Ashlee Marlatt who had a game high 19 points in the contest. In addition to Marlatt, Martha Imoniana finished with a career high 18 points, Sarah Walters had 13 points, and three players added 11 points to round out the top performers for Columbia

The Cougars are back in action on Thursday, February 16th when they host top ranked Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University in an AMC matchup. Columbia will look to avenge their loss from earlier in the season to the Lions where they fell to Freed-Hardeman by a final score of 67-44 in Henderson, Tennessee. The game is set to tip off at 5:30 p.m. in the Southwell Athletic Complex.
