Marlatt Leads Cougars Past Pirates

Box Score Parkville, Mo. – Tonight the 12th ranked Columbia College women's basketball team traveled to Parkville, Missouri, to take on Park (Mo.) University in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were able to defeat the Pirates by a final score of 86-53 and improved to 24-5 on the season and 18-5 in conference play. With the loss, Park University falls to 5-21 on the year.

The Cougars came out in the first quarter and were moving the ball well on the offensive end of the floor. They were able to jump out to an early 13-4 lead in the game and held a 22-9 advantage heading into the second quarter. They played tough defense on the Pirates and were able to force them to turn the ball over 14 times in the half as they took a 48-21 lead into the halftime break. Columbia College was led by Ashlee Marlatt who had 14 points in the half.

The Cougars continued to shoot the ball well in the third quarter and opened the period on a 15-2 run to take a 63-23 lead in the game. The Pirates had a tough time finding the basket and were held to just six points in the period as they found themselves trailing 72-27 heading into the final 10 minutes of the game. Despite having a tough time scoring all game, Park's offense came alive in the final period. They outscored Columbia 26-14 in the quarter but ultimately the Cougars were able to close them out down the final stretch and cruised to their 24th win of the season.

Columbia College was led by Ashlee Marlatt who finished with a team high 19 points in the contest. In addition to Marlatt, Mai Nienhueser was the only other player in double figures as she finished with 13 points to round out the top performers for the Cougars.

Columbia College is back in action on Saturday, February 25th when they host William Woods (Mo.) University in their final game of the regular season. Prior to the game, the seniors will be recognized for their hard work and dedication to the program throughout their time at Columbia College. The game is set to tip off at 1 p.m. in the Southwell Athletic Complex.
