McKenzie, Tenn. – The Columbia College men's baseball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to McKenzie, Tennessee, to face Bethel University in the third and fourth game of a four game series. The Cougars were defeated in both games as the Wildcats took the first game 7-6 and the second game 11-1. With the losses, Columbia falls to 2-2 on the season.
Just like the Cougars first two games of the season, Columbia College came out in the first inning of the first game and took it to the Wildcats from the first pitch. They were able to rattle off five runs in the top of the first inning thanks to a couple errors made by the Wildcats. However, Bethel responded to the Cougars big inning with three runs in the bottom half of the frame and then added one run in each of the next two innings to tie the game at five. Columbia College picked up one more run in the top of the fourth off of an RBI single by
Andrew Warner to score
Josh Mobley from third base. The lead did not last long for the Cougars as the Wildcats scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and shut down Columbia for the rest of the game to hand the Cougars their first loss of the season.
Hunter Trowbridge was the starting pitcher for Columbia College as he went 4.1 innings allowing three earned runs on two hits. On offense, the Cougars were led by
Andrew Warner who went 2-3 with two RBI's and
Justin Randle who went 1-3 with three RBI's.
In the second game of the double header, the Cougars had trouble getting anything going. The game remained tied at zero through the first three innings until Columbia was able to get on the board in the top of the fourth after

Justin Randle from third base. The Wildcats would not let the Cougars lead last for long as they scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth and added five more runs in the bottom of the fifth to solidify their second win of the day.
Jeremy Rettig was the starter for Columbia as he went 3.2 innings allowing three runs on six hits while striking out two batters in the loss.
Justin Randle was the star on offense for the Cougars as he went 2-3 with a run scored in the game.
Columbia College is back in action on Saturday, February 11
th when they travel to Memphis, Tennessee to take on Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University in a nonconference double-header. The first game is set to start at 12 p.m. with the second game to immediately follow.
