Cougars Complete Three Game Sweep in Hannibal

Hannibal, Mo. – This afternoon the Columbia College baseball team was back on the diamond in their third game of a three game series against Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University. The Cougars, who swept the double header against the Trojans on Thursday, were able to continue their winning streak as they defeated Hannibal-LaGrange by a final score of 10-4. With the win, Columbia College improves to 15-7 on the season and 9-0 in conference play.

The Cougars came out in the first inning and took it to the Trojans early. They were able to score three runs in the top of the first and a run in the top of the fourth to take a 4-0 lead into the fifth. The Trojans struggled to get anything going in the first few innings of the game and were held scoreless through five innings of play. Columbia College scored three more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-0 lead in the ballgame but Hannibal-LaGrange was able to break into the scoring column in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Cougars lead to 7-1. Columbia College answered with another run in the top of the seventh but the Cougars struggled in the bottom half of the frame as the Trojans scored three runs and cut Columbia's lead to 8-4 late in the game. Hannibal-LaGrange did their best to get back into the contest but ultimately two runs in the top of the ninth would solidify the Cougars seventh straight win.

Cody Ebert took the mound in this one allowing seven hits and just one earned run in six innings of work to pick up his third win of the season. Offensively, Columbia College was led by Andrew Warner who went 2-5 with four RBI's and Tim Fox who went 2-3 with three RBI's.

The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday, March 14th when they host Park (Mo.) University for an AMC double-header. The first game is set to start at 12 p.m. with the second game to follow at Atkins Park.
