Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Cougars Remain Unbeaten With 2-0 Win

Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the ninth ranked Columbia College women's soccer team was back in action when they played host to the Missouri Valley College Vikings in a nonconference matchup. The Cougars defeated the Vikings by a final score of 2-0 and improved to 4-0 on the season.

In the first half of the game, Missouri Valley came out and applied a lot of pressure to the Cougars defense. Columbia was finally able to settle in as the half progressed and were able to take a 1-0 lead with 17 minutes left in the half when a Missouri Valley defender was called for a handball in the box. Laurie Frew stepped up to take the penalty for Columbia and calmly placed her shot in the bottom left corner of the net for her fifth goal of the season. The Vikings did their best to equalize the score before the halftime break but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net as the Cougars took the lead into the locker room.

Columbia College came out in the second half and were able to add to their lead eight minutes into the period after earning themselves a corner. Katie Cook took the corner for Columbia and found Lucy Kingsley in the box who was able to head the ball into the back of the net to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead. Missouri Valley stepped up after the goal and had several opportunities to score but Columbia's defense was well organized and were able to keep the Vikings scoreless in the game.

Madison Boyken and Erin Jones split time in goal tonight as the two combined for seven saves in their third shutout of the season.

The Cougars are back in action on Wednesday, September 6th when they travel to Upland, Indiana, to take on the 22nd ranked Taylor (Ind.) University Trojans in a nonconference tilt. The game is set to kick off at 4 p.m.
