Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the seventh ranked Columbia College men's basketball team was back in action when they played host to the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were able to defeat the Scots by a final score of 82-60 to improve to 16-1 on the season and 8-1 in conference play.
In the first half of the game, both sides came out and exchanged baskets early. The Scots held a 10-9 lead five minutes into the contest but nine straight points from Nic Reynolds propelled Columbia to an 18-10 lead. The Cougars continued to play well over the next few minutes of the half and held a 33-20 with six minutes remaining in the period. However, the Scots battled back down the final stretch of the half and were able to cut the Cougars lead to 40-32 at the halftime break. Nic Reynolds led all scorers with 13 points at the break.
Lyon College came out in the second half and were able to cut Columbia's lead to three with just over 15 minutes to play in the game. The Cougars responded quickly to the Scots run and used a 9-0 run of their own to extend their lead back to 12 midway through the half. Lyon College did their best to get back into the game over the next few minutes but Columbia did not slow down offensively and held a 70-53 lead with just under four minutes to play. The Cougars were able to close out the Scots down the final stretch of the game and cruised to their 16th win of the season.
Jackson Dubinski led the way for Columbia tonight as the senior finished with a game high 18 points. To go along with Dubinski, Nic Reynolds finished with 17 points and Nathan Biggs dropped in 17 and finished with a team high seven rebounds to round out the top performers for the Cougars.
Columbia College is back in action on Saturday, January 6th when they play host to the Central Baptist (Ark.) College Mustangs in an AMC matchup. The game is set to start at 3 p.m. in the Southwell Athletic Complex.
