Cougars Shutout Hornets 2-0

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College men's soccer team was back in action as they hosted the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were able to shutout the Hornets by a final score of 2-0 to improve to 10-4-1 on the season and 9-0 in conference play.

The Cougars were itching to get on the board first as they had four shots on goal within the first 15 minutes of play. A perfect cross from Caden Castello found Joey Koetting flying to the goal as he headed the ball in with some power to give the Cougars the 1-0 lead early in the game. As the half progressed, Columbia continued to control the ball. The Cougars were able to hold onto their 1-0 lead as they headed into the halftime break. Columbia had eight shots with five on goal, while the Hornets had zero shots in the first half.

As the second half began, the Hornets were looking for the equalizer, but the Cougars defense continued to hold up. Koetting struck again with an assist from Lesia Thetsane with 25 minutes left in the game to give Columbia a 2-0 advantage. Koetting's pair of goals secured the 2-0 victory as the Cougars remain undefeated in conference play.

Ryan Harrisskitt (8-1-1) was in goal as he recorded two saves in the shutout.

The men's soccer team is back in action on Tuesday, October 23rd when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to take on the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics in an AMC contest. The game is set to start at 9 p.m.
